The early morning hike is worth it to experience the sun rising over Lake Atitlan and the surrounding volcanos. Indian Nose is one of many worthy destinations for photographing the Guatemala landscape. It’s a good place to spend the day swimming in the pools or just exploring the landscape. They have tiered pools and waterfalls carved out by the Cahabon River that flow underground into caves. ![]() Semuc Champey was another amazing location in Guatemala that offered beautiful scenery. I wandered around for hours photographing the ancient landscapes and temples. It’s one of the largest ruins that I’ve visited in Central America. These ruins have been around for thousands of years and about 80% of it is still buried underground. I also visited the ancient Mayan city of Tikal. There is little light pollution so it’s ideal for photographing erupting volcanos, star trails, and night photography. Multiple volcanos and Lake Atitlan can both be seen from this park. Parque Chuiraxamolo National Park is one of the best places for photographing the outdoors. I captured amazing erupting volcano photos and colorful sunrises and sunsets from above the clouds. These are two of the three active volcanoes in Guatemala, there are 37 in total. While there, I hiked and photographed Acatenango and Pacaya Volcanos. Hiking and spending time in the national parks are great ways to fall in love with this country. The geography is diverse with numerous volcanos, lakes, and ancient ruins. The Guatemala Landscape is my favorite in Central America and probably the world.
